Question: What are the members thoughts regarding extending the CDKC track. Whilst an extension of the track would be costly it would give the Club a new, longer race track giving the Club the ability to host State & National Championships as well as the Rotax Nationals. It would bring new drivers to the track and generate renewed interest with some of the older drivers. With the closing of Wollongong and Oran Park now is the time for the Club to expand and grow. We have the land available to grow, the last track extension was done way back in 1992. Craig Harradine (Committee member) Comment from Glen Egan I think it's any idea worthy of establishing a sub- committee to explore layouts, costings and finance options. NOW is the time we need to grow the Club. Craig now has a small sub-committee working on this project. If you think you would like to help give Craig a ring.
Question: The 2 day working bee last weekend was very poorly attended. How do we get more members to come along and help the Club? Graeme Abbott (President) Comment from Glenn Keating The Club needs to offer more than " do something for your Club" What about offering a number of bonus points into the club championship or turn it into a social weekend by having a campout at the track on Saturday night, obviously this would involve large amounts of beer and a BBQ and may impede a little on Sunday's productivity but it would be fun and if it's fun then people would come along to the next one. Or prizes and giveaways for attendance. Now I can hear everyone saying 'the Club can't afford it' but it wouldn't cost much to offer free membership to one lucky worker for the following year, this would also have the added benefit of keeping them in the Club and racing, as would free entry to the next Club round, etc etc.
Question: How do I find out the agenda items for upcoming AKA meetings as well as the minutes from past meetings? The AKA web site does not appear to have any agendas after 27/7/08 or any minutes after 29/8/08. Clint Baldock
Question: I would like to appeal a decision of the AKA specifically relating to Addendum 31. How do I appeal? Clint Baldock Answer: 10/7/09 If you don't like a decision from the AKA follow this system 1. Turn up at a Club meeting and state your case and convince your fellow Club members you are right. (the next meeting is 21/7/09 at the Kingswood Sports Club, 7.00pm) Put your case to a vote and if you win, then 2. It is taken by your Club delegate to a Stats Karting Council (SKC) meeting where the member Clubs either support or reject by a vote. If carried it then goes to the National Council. Please note the SKC executive do not have a vote, they just oversee procedures. 3. The same procedure is followed at the National body and is voted on by the State deegates. 4. If carried, the rule is changed at that point or in the next rule book. But, changes start at Club level, so it is up to the karters to start procedures. Russell Grimson
Question from Glenn Keating. Why no explanation for change of race dates in November? I thought the calander was planned 12 months in advance so people can schedule their time accordingly. So close to Christmas spare Sundays are scarce, I'm afraid I won't be able to attend on the new date. Answer from Graeme Abbott 2/9/09 The reason our November race date has changed back one week is so the final round of Premier State Cup can be run at Newcastle. Even though it is scheduled in the AKA Manual as race date of 24/25th October, this was to clash with final round of Rotax Pro Tour and CIK in Ipswich, Queensland. The major problem as you said about the calander being set 12 months in advance was CIK & Rotax Pro Tour came into the calander with dates after the calander was set. If you were not aware we were asked prior to this date change to move our own major event of the year the Clyde Marshall Memorial which was to clash with the Ispwich round. Sanity prevailed with us not having to move this as people had already made overnight reservations as it's a 2 day meeting. As our club is one of the five PSC Clubs, when asked for a second time to move the date, as a show of goodwill we agreed, as Newcastle had no other dates to run it. If we had remained stubborn it would have been our club which suffered the most as the PSC was prepared to run its final in opposition to our own race day. This would have left us with very limited support people to even run our race meeting. I know this date change may hurt people's plans but due to the circumstances our hands were tied. Moving it back so we don't clash at least gives people the opportunity to compete in the final round of the club championship. Graeme Abbott, President CDKC
Question from the Committee. The possibility of running a race meeting in reverse direction is being looked into. What are your thoughts? Comment from Michael Obrien. Just looking at your forum, while I'm not a Lithgow member, I do race there. I think running in reverse is asking for trouble. The runoff on the main straight going in reverse is non existant and it could mean someone getting seriously hurt or even killed hitting the gate. For anyone doubting it, speak to those at the Dubbo meeting where a karter managed to travel something like 85m off the track and almost end up in a dam, and thats in an area with good runoff. You can't cater for every circumstance, by why consider a move like this. I know some people have refused to run at Newcastle for exactly the same reason. I also have to agree with another persons comments on addendum 31. It's an odd ruling that makes no sense at all, unless as I have heard rumors of, that the AKA plan to introduce compulsary cameras at a later date. This would add to the expense and karters would have to buy the AKA approved camera of course, just like the rulings on clutches that have been pushed back and back after many went out and spent hundreds of dollars last year, only to find the ruling pushed back and the list of clutches now available to be used expanded.
Question from the Committee. What are your views regarding the compulsory introduction of the wide rear crash bar in our Midget and Rookie classes?
Comment from Guy Murphy, 2/3/10 I agree in principle of the rear crash bar, and maybe even its use across the board to improve safety, but the design needs to be investigated. I am in the senior classes, and in a recent race a fellow racer had a wide rear bar made from the same tubing as the current narrow crash bars. This bar had a far too large a gap between the rear tyre and bar, and during an overtaking manoeuvre, caught my front bar and nearly tore it off. I believe the design should be made of the same plastic as the pods or the front bar, and have a similar clearance to the rear wheel as the side pods do, to avoid similar snagging incidents.
Question from the Committee. Are members interested in purchasing Club polo fleece jumpers etc? Should the club stay with it's tradional club colours of green and gold or look for a face lift?
Question from Bob Murphy Is it possible to put on the website a brief review of our race meetings, as well as an outline of committee meeting discussions and motions so as members that cannot attend are kept up to date with club news as we all do not live in Sydney, but do support the Club by being members and racing. This might also help to increase the participation in events [working bees etc] by keeping members informed. Many Thanks. Answer: 28/2/10 A great idea Bob and thanks for the suggestion! We will do our best to put together a brief rundown of each race meeting, and also any other relevant happenings such as committee meetings etc. -Kyle Sandona
