January outline On the Australia Day long weekend in January Combined Districts Kart Club held the 4th Annual Ladies Only Karting Special Event in aid of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Throughout the day we had 10 classes with ladies aged from 7 to 70 competing. We had a Celebrity race with Ladies representing WIN TV, the Lithgow Workmans Club, the Zig-Zag Motel, Lithgow Tourism, The Lithgow Information Centre, V8 Supercars Australia and also Rose Lee who represented the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Our celebrities had an absolute ball and want to be part of it again next year. All up we had 76 ladies who raced over the weekend from Victoria, all through NSW and as far away as Rockhampton in Queensland. The main trophy they were all racing for was the Nicole Franks Memorial Trophy in honour of Nicole who was killed in 2002 at Wollongong during a kart meeting. This award went to a young Lady from Newcastle Caitlyn Woods who won all of her heats and finals. Saturday Night, 29th May 2010
The Club hosted a dinner for 60 Karters and invited guests who included State President Steve King, National Treasurer Max Laybutt, Sue Murrary from the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Kerry Frier from Blue Mountains Tourism, a survivor of breast cancer who spoke about her experience which brought most of the karters and guests to tears (this was the first time Kerry had spoken about her ordeal). After a fabulous meal prepared by the world famous Lithgow canteen staff, our presentation started with appreciation awards being handed out to everyone who was involved with the running of the January meeting. A cheque was then presented to Sue Murrary to the Value of $20 727.14. In the four years the Club has been running this meeting we have raised just over $70 000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Sue accepted the cheque and informed us of current projects which our fundraising would greatly benefit. CDKC would like to thank our members, guests, friends and families for their support by purchasing raffle tickets in our fundraiser for this event. Raffle Results:
1st prize went to Heather Jones from Cashmere QLD 2nd went to Millennium Trophies 3rd went to Stuart Taylor On another note, we also had the Vintage Go Kart Club at our track in May. They are not allowed to race, but once the helmet went on a bit of competition came to the surface. We had a fellow come from Western Australia and also two from Brisbane. All up there were over 30 karts dating back to 1962. A great weekend was had by all, with more than a few tall stories being told along the way. Graeme Abbott, President
