Reported by: Belinda Colombrita

It has been a very busy 12 months on the committee at CDKC.CDKCMI1114_0907_1

Hosting the 2014 Metro Invitational, obtaining a DA for the erection of a new covered out grid, planning for a new weigh shed and technical shed, keeping abreast of the whole of sport review, renovation of the caretaker’s accommodation and hosting numerous club championship rounds.

Presidents AwardPresidents trophy

Each year the President of CDKC selects a member of the club who is deserving of the Presidents Award.

In 2014 I selected Shae Becker. For those of you who do not know Shae she is a young driver (recently progressing to Seniors).

Shae has a heart of gold, is a great support to many around the track, always has a smile regardless of the results and is always their to lend a hand. I speak to hundreds of drivers throughout the year, many with stories about how it wasn’t their fault, dad didn’t do that, the other driver hit me, it rained, I had old tyres, the list goes on. Not once has Shae ever whispered any of these things to me and shows up every race meeting ready to take the track and enjoy the sport of go karting. Well done Shae!

What’s in the future?

In 2015 we hope that members will begin to see some of the hard work that has gone on behind the scenes.

2015 & 2016 will be about improving the surface of the track. We have received a report from an independent consultant who advises that the track has 2 years of life left. We have applied to the National Board for funding through the Track Development Fund (TDF) for financial assistance to have the work completed in February 2016. We will also be seeking additional funding through grants and or corporate support where possible.

The whole of sport review

I hear a lot of discussion about the new engines and as a club we are trying our best to facilitate the transition from the old to the new.

In February we awarded trophies for both old and new engines and will again in March. As you can imagine this is a huge expense and we will review for April. When analysing the data from February 2014 to 2015 CDKC’s numbers were down by 47, was this because of uncertainty, unhappy members and guests or other racing or social commitments, these are questions the committee will be discussing.

Volunteers Needed

We really need your assistance with the canteen over the coming months. We are looking for an Administration Assistant to support the committee and assist with ordering and improving our current canteen operations. If you or anyone you know who would be interested please ask them to email [email protected] for further information.

On behalf of the club I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lyn and Joyce for their amazing management of the canteen for many years, we hope that you both enjoy a well earned rest.

Eventsprincess winners 2015

‘Ladies Trophy Cup’

The ladies took to the track in January 2015 to compete for the much sort after “pink plate” in each class.

Although numbers were down, the event was enjoyed by all and ladies showed a great deal of team work on and off the track.

The event has been hosted by CDKC since 2007 CDKCL0115_3051_1and has a dual focus. This year our young ladies raised close to $16k for the National Breast Cancer Foundation bringing our overall total to $150k. Miss Kiara Beattie took home the Princess crown for the most funds raised, well done Kiara you are truly an inspirational young lady, with a bright future ahead.

‘The Col Becker Memorial’Zac & Kim

Zac Heard was the 2015 recipient of the ‘Col Becker Memorial Trophy’ after winning the Junior National Light event.

In 2016 the Cadet 12 class will be competing for the prestigious trophy.

Accommodation at the track

Part of CDKC success has been the friendships formed after the chequered flag has dropped. CDKC wants this to continue and wants to ensure that facilities are maintained for all visitors. From March 2015 there will be a small fee for onsite camping of $20 per site (payable at the race secretary’s office). Alternatively you can hire a caravan for $50 per night (guests to provide own linen). For further information please email [email protected]. For accommodation in town please follow the links in the ‘About’ tab on our website.

Social Media

It is the committee’s intention to use CDKC’s social media outlets to keep members up to date. It is not an avenue for slander, accusations or cyber bullying. If you have any concerns or questions on the way in which the club is being administered please feel free to use the contacts page to reach any of the committee members via their private email addresses.

I would like take this opportunity to remind everyone that members of the committee are volunteers, mostly working full time with a passion for the sport.
